Steam Cleaned Concrete
[ watch the video ]

Don’t you let the summer spoil
don’t you let the pastry crumble
don’t you let the storm clouds eat you
don’t you let them all defeat you
just remember everything is
one more time
one more time
just remember that no one is
keeping score
keeping score
don’t you let the summer spoil
don’t you the let the pastry crumble
don’t you let them call you baby
don’t you let them tell you maybe
eat off the steam cleaned concrete
take a walk before the morning
dance on top of all their coffins
wreck it all on new beginnings
just remember everything is
fit right in
fit right in
just remember you don’t have to
be like them
be like them
just remember everything is
play that game
play that game
just as long as you know you are
not like them
not the same
not the same

Song Notes: This song almost makes me cry. When I wrote it, I knew nothing of the struggle that would unleash following it's release...simply that 2002-2004....those were tough times. The song itself, it's so uplifting... I often get criticized for being too overly depressing in my music, and although I can't always argue with the critics (I've always said a sad song is better then 10 happy ones) I would like to point out that very occasionally, I do write a hopeful one. This song gives me hope, and helps me remember simpler times. In the mess that is LA, it's a song that has only gotten stronger with age. I should take its advice more often. |
