You Can’t Breathe
[ listen to a sample on iTunes ]

Watching days turn into years
watching hopes turn into fears
watching everything you thought
it could be
it could be
turn into everything you thought
it should be
it should be

when:
what you want and what you need
is so different you can’t breathe
and you write what you believe
but there’s no one there to read

you’re an educated soldier
building boundaries onto borders
how much longer will you sit
and obey
and obey
how much money do they have to
pay you to stay

well:
you like being old
you like being told
you like to sit
and make the gold

but after the day job is gone
well the days are gone
and those nights last a long long time

when:
what you want and what you need
is so different you can’t breathe
and you write what you believe
but there’s no one there to read

and you can't breathe...

Song Notes: One of those songs you know when you write it, that you'll be playing it forever. A long saga about working a job you hate until you die - it's become a kind of mantra for me. 'You write what you believe, but there's no one there to read' is still my favorite
